Guidelines for using generative AI in the hackathon
The use of generative artificial intelligence is a hot topic. We've worked on putting together some guidelines for you in collaboration with our AI team leads and the Legal team.
Teams must ensure all final code is written by them. AI tools can assist with learning or initial ideas, but the final product must be original.
Do not copy code directly from the internet or public AI-generated sources that may pose copyright risks. Ensure that all code complies with copyright laws and that any third party code license is permissive [MIT, Apache 2.0].
Protect your work and code. Ensure any use of AI does not expose proprietary company code or lead to unintentional public sharing. In all cases, never input trade secret or proprietary code into any AI systems, unless they are AVEVA provided/sanctioned enterprise version, AI tools.
Teams must document how and where generative AI was used during their project. This includes detailing AI contributions and sources.

Responsibility for customer data sits with the team company, however we strongly advise that you obtain formal written approval from a customer before using their data in your project.

We will send every team an email following each round to let them know if they have been successful or not in progressing within one week of the deadline for each round.
We will set a suitable time zone for the virtual presentations based on the teams that have been progressed through.
A minimum of four winning teams from the virtual round will be selected for the AVEVA World, in-person hackathon.
We aim to inform every finalist in early February to leave ample time to arrange travel to San Francisco.
